The Myanmar Lethwei Federation has announced that it will conduct a five-day Basic Lethwei Coaching Course from June 8 to June 12 at Thein Phyu l Lethwei Stadium. The program aims to develop trainers capable of teaching traditional Lethwei fundamentals and preserving the sport’s cultural heritage.
The course will be led by experienced Lethwei instructors, officials, and veteran practitioners.

The federation emphasized that the course is intended to train instructors in teaching the fundamentals of traditional Lethwei to the general practitioners, rather than developing professional fighters. Organizers also noted that the program will concentrate on technical execution and foundational instruction, with tactical and strategic aspects of competition remaining outside the scope of the course.
According to a curriculum, participants will study a wide range of subjects covering both the history and technical foundations of traditional Lethwei. Topics include traditional customs such as Kadaw Pwe, Lethwei Yay, and Lekkha Moun, as well as the evolution of Lethwei competition formats, weight classifications, and rules.
Practical instruction will focus on fundamental fighting skills, including punches, elbows, knees, kicks, headbutts, footwork, defensive techniques, clinch work, and grappling. Additional sessions will cover hand and foot wrapping, medical knowledge for coaches, sparring instruction, and the responsibilities of cornermen and fight assistants.
The course will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will combine classroom instruction with practical training. Interested participants were encouraged to submit applications before June 7, and completion certificates will be awarded to trainees who successfully finish the program.
